Cowgirls defeat Hampton-Dumont

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity softball team enjoyed a great night at the plate in downing conference rival Hampton-Dumont 14-9 last Monday in a game that was rescheduled from June 8th. The Cowgirls struck early, plating three runs in their half of the first inning. Maddie Disney led off by ripping a double, followed by a Megan Askelsen single to push her along. Hannah Kapka then scored Disney on a fielders choice, with Hannah TerHark scoring both Askelsen and Kapka. TerHark was caught trying to steal home to end the inning.

The Cowgirls then pretty much put the game away with a nine-run third inning. Askelsen led off with a base hit, followed by Hannah Kapka reaching to advance her. Hannah TerHark pounded a hit to load the bags, with Chloe Johnson then driving in both Askelsen and Kapka, Emily Kapka reached on a fielders choice, and a Lexi Gatewood single followed by a fielders choice for Emma Konvalinka again loaded things up. Disney stepped into the box at the top of the order, delivering a nice double toward centerfield to score Emily, Lexi and Emma. Askelsen brought Disney in, with Hannah Kapka smacking a double right after that and scoring on a TerHark base hit. The ladies were far from finished, tacking on a couple insurance runs in the seventh as TerHark brought home both Disney and Hannah Kapka.

For the night, H. TerHark was 4 of 5 with four RBI while Disney went 3 of 5 including two doubles and had three runs driven in. She also crossed the dish for three runs. H. Kapka and Johnson both went 2 of 4, and both brought in two runs each. Kapka scored four times and Johnson once. Askelsen was 2 of 5 with an RBI and three runs scored, while both Gatewood and Maya Jackson reached on base hits. E. Kapka and Konvalinka each had an RBI, while Emily, Lexi and Emma all crossed the dish once each. Johnson stole a bag, while H. Kapka and Johnson both drew a walk.
