Cowgirls defeat Gaels, Lions to conclude schedule

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity volleyball team has finished their season schedule on a three-match win streak, which is just what head coach Katrina TerHark is looking for entering next week’s Class 3A regional tournament match. They will take a 22-11 record into the postseason action.

On Tuesday, they defeated St. Edmond in three straight by scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-5. Team serving was at 94.4 percent, with Sydney TerHark making 15 of 16 with three aces. Hannah Kapka was 14 of 14 with an ace, Megan Askelsen 13 of 14 with three aces and Ana Johnson 10 of 11 with two aces. Kaylee Smith was 8 of 8 with two aces and Maddie Disney 8 of 9 with an ace.

Kapka set for 27 assists, and was helped out by Smith and Hannah TerHark in getting two assists each. Askelsen, Disney and Emily Kapka all had one assist each. The 36 total kills were led by Disney, who hammered home 11 of them from her front row spot. Hannah TerHark had nine, Sydney seven, Johnson six and Emily three successful spikes.
