Cowgirls defeat Cardinals 8-5

Last Tuesday in a home game, the Clarion-Goldfield- Dows varsity softball team picked up another win 8-5 over Garner-Hayfield/Ventura. With the Cardinals leading 5-2 going into the bottom of the fifth, the home team went to work in plating three scores then added three additional in the next inning to hold on to the victory.

Emily Kapka drove in Megan Askelsen in the first, with Kendall Lienemann bringing in Emma Schluttenhofer in the second, for the first two scores. In the fifth, Lienemann led off by taking first followed three batters later by Vanessa Kolb’s base hit bringing her home. Faith Nelson would hit safely, with both courtesy runner Remi Johnson (for Nelson) and Kolb scoring. In the sixth, Schluttenhofer led off with a base hit. Two batters later, Lienemann reached first again. Courtney Harle brought Schluttenhofer home, with Askelsen bringing Lienemann in. Harle also scored on a passed ball.

Lienemann finished 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Kapka was 2 for 3 with an RBI, while both Harle and Kolb went 2 for 4 with an RBI each. Hackley allowed only four earned runs over 5 1/3 with two strikeouts. Alaina Friesleben pitched the rest of the way.
