Cowgirls continue to play hard and improve

While the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity girls continue to seek their first win of the season, they are also improving in areas of the game and look to break into the win column soon.

In a game not reported on earlier, the team lost to Webster City 59-44 on Monday, January 9 in a rescheduled home game. The Lynx took advantage of a slow start by the home team to go up 33-11 at the break.

The Terhark sisters reached double figures to lead in scoring, as Hannah netted 14 points and Sydney 13 points which included three treys. Lili Swanson scored five points, Chloe Johnson and Megan Askelsen four points each and Vanessa Kolb and Emily Kapka two points each. Kolb and Swanson were both active on the boards as Vanessa grabbed nine rebounds and Swanson eight. Sydney finished with four, Askelsen and Hannah three each and both Johnson and Maya Jackson two each. Kapka added one rebound.

"We got down by 20, then it became hard to come back from,” stated head coach Kevin Kakacek. “We did a good job of working back to cut to the six or eight, but we wasted so much energy we couldn’t finish it. It came down to our turnovers, and that is hard to come back from.”
