Cowgirls can't find a win in three games

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity girls basketball team continues searching for the winning formula in three more recent games. They started the week facing the top-ranked Pocahontas Area team, which resulted in a 97-16 road loss. Pocahontas was in control of this one from the opening tip, piling up a 34-4 lead after one quarter.

Megan Askelsen scored four points, while Sydney TerHark and Hannah TerHark each chipped in three points with Sydney’s a three-pointer. Sid Magee, Lili Swanson and Vanessa Kolb all rounded it out with two points each. Sydney grabbed seven boards, all on defense, to lead that stat column with Emily Kapka next at five. Magee and Mikayla Hennigar both had three each, while Swanson, Askelsen, Kolb and H. TerHark all finished with two each. Maya Jackson, Lauren Odland and Cyndi Fregoso all chipped in one each. Sydney and Hannah each grabbed a steal, while Hannah also had a blocked shot.

“This is a team that’s better than us and knows what they’re doing,” stated head coach Kevin Kakacek. “They do everything off of each other. I feel we handled the pressure early, but then they jumped on us and we panicked. We just have to move on from this and work on some things.”
