Cowgirl volleyball takes two out three matches at Webster City

It was a rough night for the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity volleyball team last Thursday in a home match with rated Humboldt, as they struggled for answers to the Wildcat attack and lost in three sets. Set scores were 25-19, 25-12 and 25-11.

“Humboldt is a strong team and proved it,” stated head coach Katrina TerHark. “We were playing catch up the entire night, and you have to start strong against a team like that. We were able to put together some needed runs, but it wasn’t enough to gain a lead or stop them. Having said that, when we did put together some runs we showed that we can be a tough team. We knew going into the match what they would have for offensive threats, and we had spent time working on a game plan for that. We just didn’t execute like we needed to."

In a tournament on Saturday hosted by Webster City, the red and black won two out of their three scheduled matches. They opened the day with a win over Southeast Valley in two straight by set scores of 21-9 and 21-17. Team serving was at 93.5 percent, with Nerem going 11 of 12 (one ace), Johnson 6 of 6 and Kruger 6 of 7. Kruger set for 15 assists, with Johnson making six kills and Nerem four. Johnson, Kruger and Swanson all had a solo block each.
