Cowgirl track & field third in their class at Gowrie

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls varsity track & field team made a nice season debut this past Monday at the Richard Ryan Relays hosted by Southeast Valley at Gowrie. Pocahontas Area/Laurens-Marathon won class A with 160 points, followed in order by: Webster City 122, C-G-D 97, Southeast Valley 94, Carroll 93 and Kuemper Catholic 20.

“It was pretty cold and windy, but it was a well-run meet so it moved right along,” said head coach Monty Harker. “I thought we did a real good job.”

Kenzie Alberts and Maddie Disney both earned individual gold medals. Alberts burned up the track in 2:31.03 to top the field in the 800, while Disney posted a 15’ 8” best effort to take the long jump win. Claire Davis was second in the 400 (1:02.66), while Cierra Milner took third at 13:05.33 in the 3000. Mikayla Hennigar was also third in the discus, putting up a 96’ 05” best mark. “Kenzie had an outstanding race,” said Harker. “She was not really pushed too much. Maddie gave us a good start in field events. Claire just got beat out of the win at the wire, while Cierra did a nice job with one of her better times.” He felt Jordyn Jondle (sixth in 800), Faith Nelson (fifth in discus) and Kenzie Goodell (sixth and a personal best in long jump) all did a good job in those events for extra points
