Cowgirl track & field team competes in three meets in first week

Last Thursday in Eagle Grove, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls track & field team opened their outdoor schedule at the Lady Eagle Relays. Algona easily took the team title with 154.75 points, followed in order by: Bishop Garrigan 81, Webster City 76.75, C-G-D 69, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 49.5, Eagle Grove 47, West Hancock 41, Fort Dodge 39 and Clear Lake 28.

Ana Johnson took a pair of top three finishes individually, posting a 17.10 in the 100 hurdles for third and finishing in that same spot a bit later in the 400 hurdles with 1:19.14. Courtney Harle put up a 4’ 8” high jump mark for third, while Meleah Johnson made a long jump best effort of 14’ 10.25” for third place. Three relay teams, the sprint med, 4x1 and 4x4, all brought home a third place effort as well.

“It was a cold night for our first outdoor meet,” stated head coach Monty Harker. “We did good in the field events to get us started. I was happy with fourth as a team. Johnson had a good time in both of those events, and Megan ran well in the 100 hurdles.” He felt that Kylie Klaver didn’t do too bad for her first time in the 3000, and he felt that Haley Nerem ran a good leg to help the sprint medley to third. “I’m not sure I like that event being first up for the night,” said Harker in reference to the change in the order.
