Cowgirl track & field sending two events to state

Last Thursday in Manson, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls track & field team took part in a 2A state qualifier. Alta-Aurelia won the team crown with 121 points, followed in order by: Emmetsburg 111, Southeast Valley 90, Greene County 87, Pocahontas Area/L-M 50, C-G-D 50, Manson NW Webster 49, Ogden 41, Roland-Story 41, South Central Calhoun 35, South Hamilton 35 and Eagle Grove 13.

Courtney Harle was second in the 100 dash in 13.30 to move on to Des Moines later this week. Joining her will be the 4x2 relay as they also grabbed silver in 1:50.52. Harle anchored that relay which included Meleah Johnson, Kendall Lienemann and Sid Magee.

Other strong efforts included both the 4x1 and 4x4 taking third place, while the 4x8 came home in fourth. Johnson took fifth in the long jump.

“The weather was not the best, but what was best was that nearly everyone ran their season best,” stated head coach Monty Harker. “That is what our goals are at the start of the season. Just as last year. Courtney and the 4x2 were the only qualifiers. We were very close in the 4x1 and 4x4, just getting edged out at the finish.”
