Cowgirl track & field fourth at NCC Meet in Hampton

Last Thursday in Hampton, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls track & field team took fourth place in the final standings at the NCC Meet. Algona easily won the title with 165 points, followed in order by: Humboldt 116, Webster City 114, C-G-D- 93, Hampton-Dumont 92, Iowa Falls-Alden 66, St. Edmond 48 and Clear Lake 36.

Maddie Disney scored the long jump win with a 15’ 7” best effort. Claire Davis took gold in the 400 (1:01.50), and Kenzie Alberts did the same in the 800 (2:29.73). The distance med, sprint med and 4x4 relays all crossed in first as well. “It was a nice night to run, and a nice night performance-wise for us,” stated head coach Monty Harker. “There was good competition which pushed us. I was happy with fourth, as it meant we won the small school team competition. I like the overall way the girls competed.”

He stated he changed the lineup a bit in the distance med event. “They set a new school record with that time, with the old record of 4:323.49 going back to 1988,” said Harker. “Johnson and Kruger had great splits, and Alberts ran an unbelievable anchor leg of 2:22. This event is high on both the district and state chart right now.” He also liked how the 4x4 dropped a huge seven seconds off their fastest clocking. Alberts had a :60 split, Disney a :64 and Davis a :60. “Claire got the baton in third place, and ran a smart race to outkick the rest at the finish,” said Harker.
