Cowgirl track and field competes at Wartburg

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls track & field team traveled to the indoor facility on the campus of Wartburg College in Waverly last Tuesday for the final meet of three total hosted by the college. No team points are kept, and all classes run together.

The Cowgirls had two runners make the finals. Courtney Harle posted a 7.97 in her prelim heat of the 55-meter dash, then put up an 8.03 in the finals for seventh place. Meleah Johnson had an 8.32 in that event in her prelim heat. Ana Johnson won her prelim heat of the 55-meter hurdles in 9.62, then came back in the finals with a 9.94 for seventh place. Megan Zweifel also competed in that event, putting up a 10.17 in her heat.

“We showed some improvement at this meet,” stated head coach Monty Harker. “Both Courtney and Ana made the finals, with Ana qualifying for the second year in a row there. I thought the 4x2 ran a very good race with Meleah running a good leg. The 4x4 improved by over three seconds from UNI. Courtney ran a great first leg with a :65 split, and Haley improved by four seconds with a :67. Vanessa ran a good 800 again. All the girls did well to start the year, and now we have some time to improve before we start our outdoor schedule on April 6 at Eagle Grove.”
