Cowgirl softball team off to 2-1 start

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity softball team has opened their season in fine fashion, carving out a 2-1 start with wins over Eagle Grove and Algona.

Versus the Eagles in a home contest on Tuesday, the red and black went up 6-2 after three complete innings. The Eagles would not go away quietly, and plated four scores in their half of the sixth to tie it. The Cowgirls then took a one-run lead in their half of that inning, and made it stand as they kept the visitors tying run stranded on third to end the game.

Megan Askelsen swung a big stick in this game, going 2 of 3 with a double and two RBI. She also scored a run. Hannah Kapka and Hannah TerHark were both 2 of 4, with Chloe Johnson and Lexy Gatewood also reaching on singles. Gatewood was credited with an RBI. Disney came across home plate twice, with Johnson and Gatewood both scoring a run each. Alex Hackley and Maya Jackson both scored once each as courtesy runners. Disney, Johnson and Gatewood all stole a base, while Gatewood also drew a walk.
