Cowgirl seson ends in 5-4 regional loss to Gilbert

With ace Sydney TerHark back in the circle following an injury scare that caused her to miss a few games, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity softball team gave it everything they had but still came up on the short end of a 5-4 score in a first round regional game last Wednesday on the Cowgirls home field.

Hannah Kapka reached on a double to center in the third, and would later score their first run. In the fourth, Emma Konvalinka reached on a base hit and stole her way to second. Maddie Disney then drove her in at the top of the order. In the sixth, Emily Kapka reached on a base hit and stole her way to third. Lexi Gatewood then stepped to the plate and ripped a double to left to bring her home. Lexi would later score on a passed ball and an error.

“While this was a loss we could just as well have won, we don’t hang our heads about going out with aggressive play,” stated head coach Patty Stockman-Sann. Konvalinka ended the night with two hits, while Disney had two RBI. Emily stole two bases, with H. Kapka, Emma and Vanessa Kolb all getting one steal each. Emily and Maya Jackson each drew a walk.
