Cowgirl golfers win another meet

Last Tuesday at Lakeside north of Fort Dodge, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity golfers defeated both Algona and St. Edmond in a tri-meet. The Cowgirls posted a 200 total, followed by the Bulldogs with 215 and the Gaels with 247. Shanee Tate was medalist, firing a 44. Other counting cards were brought to the clubhouse by Cassy Mendoza with 50, Ashley Keller with 51 and Meghan Geary with 55. Other rounds were played by Paeten Schultz (56) and Kaylee Smith (57).

“This was a great way to finish out our conference schedule,” stated head coach Dan Smith. “The girls all played well, and as always displayed great character on the course. I’m very proud of this team to go out and shoot a 200 to wrap up third place. Shanee came up big, with her round including a birdie and a couple of pars. Cassy stepped up to shoot her personal best. Ashley went low as well, and Meaghan rounded out our scoring. The greens played a little fast and caused some issues, but overall the course did not defend us very well.”

The Algona JV won that portion 227-248. JV scores were: Madison Kubly 59, Emma Konvalinka 60, Taylor Hagie 63, Katie Haberman 66, Karlie Sellner 66 and Hannah TerHark 74. “It was nice to see some of the JV scotes working their way down as well,” said coach Smith. “I have really seen the improvement the girls have made, with such little one on one time with them. It is so true, if they just get out and play they will continue to get better.”
