Cowgirl golfers take season record to 5-2

Last Monday, April 13, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls varsity golf team defeated Roland-Story 202-229 in a dual meet at River Bend. The weather was sunny and breezy, with the temperature in the 60’s.

Medalist was Bridget Concannon of the Norseman with a 45, while runner-up honors went to Mikaela Livengood with a 46. Other counting cards were turned in by Jenalee Hinkle with 49, Hope Polzin with 53 and both Shanee Tate and Hannah Leist with identical 54’s (only one needed for varsity total). Kaylee Smith also played a round and finished with 58.

“The course was in good shape, with several water hazards as a river flows through it,” said coach Dan Smith. “The greens were quite quick, which led to some chipping issues and more putts than normal. Our girls were finding out they could not land their approach shots on the green and keep them there. The goal was to land short and let the ball roll onto the green. We had a team low 20 putts. The course had three par 5’s and played long and two short par 3’s.”
