Cowgirl golfers get first win of season

This past Monday at Clarmond, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls golfers hosted Roland-Story. The Cowgirl varsity won 208-243, to square their record at 1-1 on the year. Shanee Tate picked up medalist honors by firing a nice 46 score, with teammate Kaylee Smith taking runner-up with a 53 total.

“The weather was very cold and windy, creating difficult playing conditions,” said head coach Dan Smith. “I was hoping to go lower than our opening 223 versus Garner. The girls played very well overall, and it was good to see Shanee drop nine strokes from her previous meet. We need her to score around that mid-40 number as our number one golfer. Kaylee showed consistency with her back to back 53’s this year.”

Other counting scores were turned in by both Cassie Hanson and Ashley Keller with 54 totals. Other varsity cards were submitted by Paeten Schultz (55) and Taylor Hagie (64). “Ashley had the biggest jump in scores from the first meet,” said coach Smith. “I would be very pleased to have our number one and two golfers combine for 100 or less, and the other two at 110 or less. We would be very competitive all year by shooting a 210 or lower. It’s always good to get that first win of the season.”
