Cowgirl golfers defeat South Hamilton, Eagle Grove

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls golf team extended their early record to 3-1 overall with a tri-meet win over both South Hamilton and Eagle Grove this past Monday at Jewell. The Cowgirls posted a 198 total, followed by the Hawks with 205 and the Eagles with 217. Katie Blasi of the Eagles was medalist with a 43, followed in the runner-up spot by Shanee Tate with 45.

Other Cowgirl counting cards were filled out by Kaylee Smith (49), Cassie Hanson (52) and Ashley Keller (52). Rounds were also played by Paeten Schultz (60) and Taylor Hagie (62).

“The rain held off until the last couple of holes, and we were able to play in pretty good weather conditions,” said head coach Dan Smith. “I cannot say enough about our players and what they continue to not only shoot for scores but how they carry themselves on the gold course. Scores are important, but each individual’s character and course etiquette are even more important. It pleases me to see our girls helping out other players with questions, marking their ball on the green, being positive regardless of their score and even doing the little things like putting the flagstick back in at the end of a hole. It is fun to watch them grow as golfers and to see their scores dropping. We had our best team total on the season, and our scores were good enough to put us in the top three teams in the conference and have a chance to advance in postseason play. I will continue to look for consistency and areas of improvement as the season progresses.”
