Cowboys win first game of year 8-7 over Indians

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows football team finally broke into the win column in an 8-7 victory over Forest City on senior night at Cowboy stadium. The tight defensive struggle saw Reymundo Vasquez score the home team’s only touchdown on a one-yard burst.

Vasquez finished with 123 rushing yards on 28 carries, with Jaace Weidemann adding 26 yards on seven attempts. Will Weidemann had 12 yards on five carries and Alex Machuca three yards on two totes of the ball.

“The defense played very well,” stated head coach Newt Lingenfelter. “The D line provided great pressure, and our young secondary provided great coverage. Will led in tackles, including several for a loss. Offensively, we moved the ball consistently and ground out a drive when we needed it in the third quarter to take the lead.”

The Cowboys finish their season at Hampton-Dumont this Friday.
