Cowboys open with 7-1 win over Rockford

Kapka pitches a gem

Cowboy starter Cody Kapka was in total command, and his team backed him up both defensively and offensively, for a 7-1 opening win of the season last Wednesday in Rockford. The red and black took a 1-0 lead in the second, then tacked on three more scores in the third and two in the seventh to cap it off.

“It took a little bit for our offense to get going,” said head coach Jason Berning. “Once we did, we had timely hits and manufactured runs. We were aggressive on the base paths and that’s what we wanted. It paid off for us.”

Jarrod Littlejohn, Jacob Harvey and Eryn Ulven were all 2 for 3 at the plate, with Tanner Abbas also getting a base hit.
