Cowboys lose to Clear Lake in high scoring game 63-38

In what looked more like a basketball score than football, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows/CAL varsity lost a shootout at Clear Lake 63-38. The two teams traded punches, up and down the field, with five Lion touchdowns and two Cowboy scores in the first half alone.

“If offense is what you like, I guess this was an exciting game to watch,” said head coach Paul Hansch. “Our execution on offense was excellent all night, and the team battled throughout the contest. Our offensive line played exceptionally well. Zach (Pogge) continues to look like an all-state running back, and it certainly helped our offense to have Kainan (Braun) back this week.”

The Lions got on the board first on a 36-yard touchdown run, with Pogge taking the ensuing kick and blasting up field for an 89-yard touchdown run. A two-point conversion pass from Braun to Israel Rivera was good, making it 8-7 Cowboys. Clear Lake then proceeded to reel off 21 unanswered points in going up 28-8 in the second quarter. The Cowboys finally answered back on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Braun to Chase Harker with 1:57 left until halftime. The two-point pass was good. A late touchdown by the Lions made the score 35-16 in their favor at the half.
