Cowboys go on nice 4-game winning streak

Last Friday night in a home game, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys varsity basketball team downed Humboldt 65-55 for their fourth straight win. They held a 38-27 halftime lead.

Rhett Darland was on fire in blazing 26 points through the hoop, including six buckets from downtown. Sam Urness had 17 points, Derek Conlon nine points, Zack Leist six points and Will Weidemann four points. Jacob O’Connor added two points and Bryce Tegtmeyer one point to round it out. Leist had nine boards, seven of them on defense. Urness made six rebounds, with Darland, Weidemann and Avery Harrington all credited with four each. Marco Duran, Conlon, O’Connor and Tegtmeyer all grabbed one carom each.

“We opened with our seniors for senior night,” said head coach Brandon Lantzky. “They did a great job and had some great looks on the offensive end and rebounded well. Our first quarter was great. We were able to build a good lead early. In the third quarter, we had a bit of a let down and failed to find their shooters. Humboldt then made it a bit closer than we would have liked. We were able to turn the momentum around and extend the lead and finish off an important conference win.”
