Cowboys get another win, then season ends on Saturday

On Friday July 1, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity baseball team lost a tight 6-4 game to Algona. The Cowboys scored two runs each in the second and seventh innings, but then saw the Bulldogs plate two scores in their half of the eighth that the Cowboys couldn’t seem to answer.

Jarrod Littlejohn was 2 of 4 with a homerun and two RBI. Zach Martin and Brendon Boyd also had an RBI each, while Martin, Jacob O’Connor and Bryce Tegtmeyer joined Jarrod in scoring the runs. Brendon took the loss on the hill, but allowed just two earned runs on two hits. O’Connor also saw duty, throwing nine K’s.

They picked up a much needed 16-5 win over North Iowa on Tuesday at home, using an eight-run sixth inning to bust it open. Zack Leist swung a hot stick, going 3 of 4 with a double and three RBI. Brendon blasted two balls out of the park, and finished 2 of 3 with six RBI and four runs scored. Littlejohn was 2 of 2, both doubles, with three RBI and three runs scored. Weidemann was 2 of 3 and scored a run. Tegtmeyer ripped a triple for his only contact, and had an RBI and a run scored. Martin had a double for his only hit, and also had an RBI and scored twice. Bryce Hamilton crossed the dish twice as a courtesy runner, and Zach Frye once as a pinch runner.
