Cowboys edged out by Pocahontas, almost beat Gaels

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity boys basketball team tried in vain to stay with the visiting Pocahontas Area Indians last Tuesday night, but the end result was still a 69-56 PAC win. The score was 16-13 Indians after one quarter, and even though the Cowboys closed it up a bit they still trailed 30-29 at the break. PAC still led 48-39 after three quarters.

Three Cowboys reached double figures in the scoring column, with Derek Conlon firing in 14 points including bombing four buckets from long range. Sam Urness knocked down 12 points with a trey included, and Rhett Darland finished with 10 points and two treys as part of his total. Noah Maxheimer and Zach Leist each scored six points, Will Weidemann four points and both Ryan Darland and Chase Harker two points apiece to complete the night’s work. Leist pulled down nine boards, six of those on defense, with Weidemann grabbing seven balls off the glass and Harker four. Urness and Rhett Darland had two each, while Ryan Darland, Conlon and Maxheimer all finished with one carom each.

Urness dished out five assists, with Ryan making three and Conlon, Harker, Weidemann and Rhett all one apiece. Urness had two steals, with Conlon, Maxheimer and Weidemann all getting one each.
