Cowboys easily defeat West Hancock

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity boys basketball team is attempting to build some momentum for entering the district tournament part of their season, and certainly helped themselves to that end in an 88-64 shellacking of West Hancock last Monday in a home game. They had things well in hand by halftime in building a 52-22 advantage entering the locker room.

Two Cowboys hit double digits, led by Rhett Darland banging in 29 points including six long range bombs. Sam Urness netted 24 points including a nice 10 of 12 in charity tosses. Alex Machuca and Zach Martin finished with six points each, while Bryce Tegtmeyer, Riley State and Ben Rudolph all scoring four points each. Brier Boyd and Will Weidemann scored three points each, Jaace Weidemann two points and Max Powers one point to round it out.

“We did a good job of defending the cutters and contested shots,” stated head coach Brandon Lantzky. “The reason we won this game was good shooting and rebounding. Anytime you can put that many points on the scoreboard, you stand a good chance of succeeding.”
