Cowboys drop high scoring game 32-25

In a wild game, with both teams combining for over 500 yards of offense, the New Hampton Chickasaws spoiled the homecoming game for Clarion-Goldfield-Dows by leaving town with a 32-25 win. The visitors had to hold on at the end however, as the Cowboys cut it to a seven-point deficit but simply ran out of clock to do any more.

New Hampton put the first three scores of the night on their side of the board, and by late in the first half the home team was staring up at a 22-0 Chickasaw lead on the board. They were finally able to break through with 1:25 left in the half, as quarterback Jaace Weidemann took a keeper and busted loose for a pretty 74 yard run. The PAT was no good, and the score stood at 22-6 at halftime.

New Hampton put up ten more points over the next two quarters, taking what seemed like a commanding 32-6 lead into the final 11:55 of the game. It would take a nearly improbable comeback for the Cowboys just to tie the score, but it almost did happen. They rolled up their sleeves and got to work, with a drive culminating in a 15-yard touchdown pass from Weidemann to Bryce Tegtmeyer. Alex Machuca then had his number called for a two-point pass attempt from Weidemann, but couldn’t find the handle which left it at 32-12.
