Cowboys defeat Hampton-Dumont 58-30

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity boys kept their winning streak alive in a 58-30 win last Tuesday in Hampton over the Bulldogs. Three players hit for double figures, as Sam Urness drained 16 points including a hot 5 of 6 from the charity line. Rhett Darland popped for 14 points including four buckets from downtown, and Avery Harrington netted 13 points on 6 of 6 from the field. Zack Leist scored four points, with Zach Martin, Derek Conlon and Brier Boyd all getting three points each. Will Weidemann scored two points.

Weidemann finished with six rebounds, with Urness, Marco Duran, Darland, Jacob O’Connor and Leist all getting four each. Conlon had two rebounds, with Boyd, Harrington and Riley State making one apiece. Urness dished out eight assists, with Darland, Conlon and Weidemann all making two apiece. Duran, Harrington and State all were credited with one each. Urness picked pockets for five steals, with Darland and Conlon both making three thefts each. Duran and State finished with one each. Harrington made two blocked shots, with Urness, Darland, O’Connor, Boyd and Leist swatting down one each.

On Thursday, they lost a heartbreaking 66-61 game at West Hancock in double overtime. The score was deadlocked at 52-52 after regulation. Urness scored 12 points, while Darland and Weidemann each had 10 counters. Conlon scored nine points, Leist and Harrington six points each, O’Connor four points and both Duran and Martin two points each. Leist pulled down 11 boards, with Urness making seven rebounds and Weidemann six. Conlon grabbed five caroms, Harrington four, Darland three and O’Connor two.
