Cowboys defeat Gaels 78-75

Under head coach Adolph Kochendorfer, the St. Edmond boys basketball team has been a multi-time NCC champion and has been to state more than once. But as of late, the Cowboys have turned things around to the point where they can stand toe to toe with coach K’s boys and even knock them off. That’s what happened last Tuesday night in a 78-75 Cowboy home win. The red and black trailed by only two at 37-35 at the break. It was their fifth win in their last six games.

Three players scored in double figures, led by Sam Urness with 32 points including five buckets from long range and a great 7 of 10 from the charity line. Rhett Darland poured in 22 points with five treys himself, while Will Weidemann finished with 10 points. Avery Harrington had six points and both Bryce Tegtmeyer and Alex Machuca four points each. Harrington yanked down 10 boards, seven of them on defense. Darland and Weidemann managed to get five caroms each, with Urness at four. Tegtmeyer had three, Max Powers two and Machuca one rebound.

Urness dished up eight assists, with Zach Martin making three and Darland, Harrington and Powers all one apiece. Darland picked pockets for three steals, with Urness swiping two and Weidemann one. Harrington also added a blocked shot to his final line.
