Cowboys couldn't stay with Cardinals in 45-8 loss

With the arrival of fall, the nights are getting noticeably longer and for the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows football team it seemed longer yet in a 45-8 loss to visiting Garner-Hayfield/Ventura last Friday in district play. The Cowboys only score of the night was a pretty play, as Jaace Weidemann found Alex Machuca running down the sideline as he caught the ball in stride for a 33-yard touchdown pass. Vasquez scored on the two-point conversion.

Reymundo Vasquez carried 19 times for 58 yards, with Jaace rushing on nine plays for 21 yards and Machuca having two attempts for 13 yards. Reed Abbas picked up a yard on three attempts. Jaace finished at seven out of 13 for 79 yards thru the air, with a TD strike but also two interceptions. He had a 99.5 percent final rating. Machuca totaled five catches for 67 yards (13.4-yards per catch), with Will Weidemann grabbing two passes for 12 total yards.

Will had 10 solo tackles and eight assists. Sam Johnson, Bryce Tegtmeyer and Machuca all finished with three solo stops each, with Sam making two assists and Bryce one. Noah Roosa, Ryan Watne and Vasquez all finished with two solo tackles and two assists each, while Cole Lindaman managed two solo and one assist. Carter Dietz, Connor Johnson and Colby Lienemann all had one solo stop each, with Carter making eight assists and both Connor and Colby two each. Matt Beltran and Salvador Fregoso each had a tackle assist. Johnson, Lindeman and Will Weidemann all had a solo tackle for loss, which also counted as a sack for each.
