Cowboys close to victory before dropping 18-15 game to Broncos

On Tuesday, June 7 at Belmond, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity baseball team played perhaps their most competitive game of the season before falling 18-15 to the Broncos. In the end, a huge Bronco 10-run fifth inning proved too much to overcome.

The Cowboys busted from the chute strong, plating nine scores in their half of the first. For the game, Will Weidemann was 3 of 4 and scored two runs. Brendon Boyd was 2 of 5, including a double, and tallied five RBI with two runs scored. Jarrod Littlejohn was 2 of 5 with three RBI and a run scored. Zach Martin was 2 of 4 with an RBI and four runs scored. Brier Boyd and Calen Rosenbaum also had base hits, with Calen credited with an RBI. Blake Jackson had an RBI and scored two runs. Tyler Steiner crossed the dish twice, with Eryn Ulven and Bryce Hamilton scoring one run each. Brendon Boyd stole two bags, with Martin, Jackson and Hamilton all making one steal each. Jackson and Steiner both showed a good eye at the plate in drawing two walks each. Martin, Weidemann, Ulven and Rosenbaum all drew a free pass apiece.

Ulven was tagged with the loss, giving up five earned runs in one inning of work. He had eight walks and one strikeout. Brier Boyd pitched four innings, walking four and throwing six K’s. Littlejohn pitched an inning, striking out four batters while allowing none earned.
