Cowboys beat Rockford, drop contest to SE Valley

Last Tuesday night in Gowrie, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity boys basketball team evened their pre-holiday record at 3-3 (3-1 in conference play) with a 66-51 loss to the home Jaguars of Southeast Valley. Ryan Darland came up big for his team, netting 22 points with Chase Harker next at nine points. Sam Urness and Noah Maxheimer both finished with five counters each, while Derek Conlon and Zack Leist each put in four points. Will Weidemann finished the scoring with two points. Those are unofficial totals, and the only stats available at press time.

In a game not reported on last week, the red and black beat Rockford 61-53. After a 13-13 tie following the first period, the Cowboys posted a ten-point advantage at 32-22 at the break. Four players reached double figures in the win, led by Urness with 16 points including a nice 8 of 12 from the line. Rhett Darland scored 13 points, with two treys mixed in, while Harker and Weidemann both fired in 10 points each. Maxheimer and Leist scored four points apiece, with Ryan Darland and Brendon Boyd each getting two points on the night. Weidemann posted a double-double in also ripping down 11 boards. Rhett Darland and Harker both had five rebounds each, while Urness and Leist got their hands on three caroms each. Ryan Darland, Conlon and Maxheimer all had one rebound apiece.
