Cowboy wrestling team takes 11th place at Ames

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling team competed in a tough invitational at Ames on Saturday. The tournament included a number of large schools, and was won by West Des Moines Valley with 231 points. Following them in the top five were Cedar Rapids Prairie, Indianola, Ballard (Huxley) and Glenwood. The Cowboys were 11th out of 18 teams.

While they had no individual champions, the red and black did have three wrestlers take a top five spot in their respective weight brackets. Tanner Abbas (138) finished second, after pinning his way into the semifinals then taking a close 3-2 win to make the championship match. He lost a 12-4 major decision to Noftsger of Ballard in that match.

Connor Johnson (126) was third on the day, winning by fall then a decision to move into the semifinal round. He lost by a major decision there, but came back through the consolation side to win twice for his final placing. Dakota Hennigar (152) was fifth, winning a 7-5 decision over Ruskamp of Sergeant Bluff-Luton for that place.
