Cowboy track & field sixth at NCC Meet in Webster City

The Humboldt Wildcats squeaked out a narrow team title win at the NCC track & field meet last week in Webster City. The Wildcats piled up 161.5 points, with Algona second at 161. The rest finished like this: Iowa Falls-Alden 102, Clear Lake 89, Wesbster City 77.5, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows 44, St. Edmond 35 and Hampton-Dumont 29.

Head coach Craig Warnke was impressed with Zach Pogge’s performance in both the 100 and 200 dashes. “That was his fastest time in the 200,” said Warnke. “It was a similar field to what he’ll see at districts. It was good for him to face that type of competition. Both of these events will be a tight field, and so he’ll need to run well.”

The Cowboy shuttle hurdle team would have posted its best time of the year, but unfortunately was DQ’d. “They ran well, and still have a chance to make it in,” said Warnke. Jacob O’Connor posted his best 110 hurdles time, and Rosenbaum did the same thing in the 3200. The coach liked Sam Urness’s opening leg of the 4x2, and mentioned that Nick Haechler had his fastest split of the year in the 4x4. “That relay gives us our best chance for state,” said Warnke. “Right now, they have the fastest district time. I think Derek (Conlon) will be ready to roll by then.”
