Cowboy track & field competes at meets in Clear Lake, Forest City

Last Tuesday, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys track & field team traveled to the Lion Relays at Clear Lake. Forest City took top team honors with 166.5 points, followed in order by: Algona 152, Lake Mills 119, Osage 103.5, Clear Lake 87, C-G-D 52, Belmond-Klemme 41 and Hampton-Dumont 17.

“Many of the athletes are having their best career times/distances right now,” stated head coach Craig Warnke. “We have some work to do, but we feel the gains so far should set us in position to put several events into district contention in May. I am especially pleased by the ability the freshman have shown lately in both varsity and JV events.”

Highlights for the varsity included Jacob O’Connor grabbing a second place medal in the 110 hurdles (16.17), while he also ran a leg of the second place shuttle hurdle relay team (1:03.85). Brendan Davis won the 800 in 2:18.80 on the JV side, with the distance med relay placing second. No JV team points were kept.

On Thursday at Forest City, the host team won their Indian Relays with 155.5 points. They were followed in the final standings by: Humboldt 153.50, St. Ansgar 119, Webster City 105, Clear Lake 75.5, Belmond-Klemme 33.5, C-G-D 30, West Fork 29, Eagle Grove 27 and Hampton-Dumont 11.
