Cowboy track and field sending three events to state

There’s no better time to shine at the state track meet than when you’re a senior, and Zach Pogge will get that opportunity later this week after qualifying in both the 100 and 200 dash’s for the blue oval. He will also run a leg of the 4x4 relay that will represent their school as well.

“Every event that should have qualified did, and every event we had slide up in the rankings,” stated head coach Craig Warnke. “We also had personal bests or season bests set. Can’t ask for more than that.”

Forest City took the team title with 102 points, followed by South Central Calhoun at 99 points and Central Springs at 77 points. The Cowboys took 10th with 39 points. Pogge finished second in the 100 to earn an automatic berth with an 11.73 clocking, but settled for third in the 200 in 23.38 with a time still good enough statewide to get him there. “He beat a quality 100 runner from Clear Lake,” said Warnke. “He’ll do well there.” The 4x4 will include Nick Haechler, Bryce Hamilton, Derek Conlon and Pogge, after those boys toured the track in 3:29.02 for second place to move on. “They dropped time again,” said Warnke. “We should have beaten Forest City too, but they’ve come a long ways after looking terrible early in the season.”
