Cowboy golfers finally get their season underway

After waiting for what seemed like forever, the Cowboy golf team finally hit the links for their initial action of the season. The went to Highland Country Club last Monday for a meet hosted by Iowa Falls-Alden. Clear Lake won with a 161 total, followed by Webster City at 178, C-G-D at 179, IF-A at 181 and Algona at 197. Tate Storbeck of the Lions was medalist with a two-over 38, and was followed by teammate Jackson Hamlin with a 39 as runner-up.

Counting scores for the Cowboys were: Sam Johnson with 41, Zach Martin with 44, Dalton Nesheim with 46 and Blake Jackson with 48. Other varsity cards were turned in by Alec Martin and Will Weidemann with identical 49 totals. There was no JV team competition, but rounds were played by Carter Goodell (48) and Bryce Tegtmeyer (57).

“It’s been quite a season so far,” stated coach Pat O’Brien. “Before Monday, we didn’t have an organized practice on a course. That has happened in the past, but we have never been this late. Only two weeks and then into the postseason. Not the best start for scores, except Sam. He’s presently at the sixth spot, but he made a huge difference. We did get victories over the Cadets and Bulldogs, but we were not happy with the total. We made some ‘big miss’ mistakes which we will fix. I like the way we are thinking our way around the course. We have big goals, so we will get out the kinks and get back at it.”
