Cowboy golfers defeat Humboldt, Hampton-Dumont

Last Tuesday at Clear Lake, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity boys golf team played a tri-meet with Clear Lake and Humboldt. The Lions won with a 148 total, with second going to Cowboys with 169 and third to the Wildcats with 179. Medalist was Calaguas of the Lions with a 35.

For the Cowboys, counting cards were brought back to the clubhouse by Alec Martin with 38, Dalton Nesheim with 39, Zach Martin with 45 and Will Weidemann with 47. Other rounds were played by Brendon Boyd (49) and Blake Jackson (53).

The JV finished third, with the Lions at 159, the Wildcats at 193 and the Cowboys at 209. JV scores were: Dylan Jackson 47, Sam Johnson 51, Matt Jacobsen 52, Brandon Schultz 59, Carter Goodell 59 and Bryce Tegtmeyer 64.

"Turned out to be a great day weather-wise,” stated head coach Pat O’Brien. “Alec’s score was the real key to victory over Humboldt. We really needed that score to balance out the others we had to use. Dalton played a real solid round also. We don’t have the firepower right now to compete with the Lions, and they are very good, but it sure is a litmus test and motivation for us for the future. We will see them several times down the road."
