Cowboy golf team wins West Hancock tourney

The Lakeside Course near Fort Dodge was the host site on Thursday, April 26 for a tri-meet involving St. Edmond, Webster City and the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys team. The Cowboys won with a 172, just edging out the Lynx with 173 and the Gaels with 177. Varsity scores were led by Zach Martin and Blake Jackson with identical 41’s, followed by Will Weidemann with 44 and Alec Martin with 46 as counters. Other rounds were played by Dalton Nesheim (48) and Sam Johnson (49).

The Gael JV defeated the Cowboys 219-231, with the Lynx not having enough golfers for a team score. JV final scores were: Brandon Schultz 49, Bryce Tegtmeyer 54, Camden Hanson 63, Carter Goodell 65, Raymond Boeset 70 and Caden Hanson 71.

“A little cold and windy for this one, but not a big deal for this season as we were just happy to play,” stated head coach Pat O’Brien. “Zach’s 41 with a nine on the par 4 13th was a really nice score. He has been playing a lot better lately. Blake’s 41 was the score that really made the difference in the meet. We need to get consistency out of everyone. We have the ability to all go low, which is really nice, but we haven’t put it all together yet. We are happy about two good wins in the conference! Brandon and Bryce put up some decent JV scores also.”
