Cowboy golf team opens season with win over G-H/V

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity boys golf team didn’t play their best but still got the job done enough to defeat the home team Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals 182-187 on Monday, April 6. Trenton Sann was medalist with a 41 total, while teammate Kenton Waters grabbed the runner-up spot with a 44 total. Other counting cards were turned in by Mike Schaffer with 45 and Brendon Boyd with 52. Other varsity rounds were played by Zach Martin and Will Weidemann (both with 54 totals).

“We won, but sadly that is the most positive thing that came out of the day,” said head coach Pat O’Brien. “Yes, there were a number of young men that found out what competitive golf is all about and we had a chance to get nervous about the meet, but we also have to realize that we have to get a lot better. We have good potential, with a lot of kids that can compete against each other, but if we are going to be successful this season we need to raise the bar fast. A 182 will not do it in this conference.”
