Cowboy freshmen show growth in 2-4 Start, beat Hampton-Dumont & Southeast Valley

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboy Freshmen basketball team entered the holiday break with a 2-4 record. Coach Logan Holmes filed this report on early portion of the season.

On December 1 the Cowboys traveled to Eldora to take on South Hardin and were handed a 60-25 loss. South Hardin led 39-11 at halftime. Alec Martin scored 9 points, Sam Johnson 8, Brier Boyd 5, Blake Jackson 2, and Kane Mendoza 1. “We really struggled with their full court press in this game,” said Holmes. “We did way too much dribbling right into traps and then turned the ball over leading to layups for them. We just didn’t see the floor.”

On December 8 the Cowboys were on the road again as they were at Fort Dodge to take on St. Edmond. The Cowboys trailed 31-13 at halftime and lost 62-31. Blake Jackson scored 8, Parker Claude 7, Andrew Conlon 6, Alec Martin 3, Isaac Romero 3, and Sam Johnson 2. “We played well at times offensively but had long stretches of not scoring. We just needed to be more aggressive and attack,” said Holmes. “St. Eds had a nice inside out game as they established their inside game early and then were able to kick out and have multiple players hit three’s, which was tough to defend.”
