Cowboy football team struggles in 57-8 home loss

Last Friday night in Clarion, Spirit Lake showed why they are the second place team in the district and has a legitimate shot at a playoff spot after defeating the Cowboys by a 57-8 score. The home team’s lone score came on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Shane Conlon to Mateo Martinez.

Trenton Jergenson gained 15 yards on 10 carries, with Rafael Jimenez rushing for five yards and Martinez three yards. Conlon was two of 13 through the air for 34 yards, finishing with a 62.7 rating. Martinez caught both passes, while Kain Nelson scored the two-point conversion following the Martinez touchdown.

Nelson made four punts for a 22.3-yard average, with Rigo Bobadilla making one for 25 yards. Martinez returned one punt for 20 yards, while Jergenson ran back four kicks for a 21.5-yard average. Clinton Miller fielded two kick returns for a 16.0-yard average and Jimenez one for no gain.

Final tackle stats show Damien Bjorklund with five solo and two assisted tackles. Noah Roosa, Bryce Allen, Nelson, Martinez and Cole Lindaman all made two solo stops each. In addition, Noah had four assists, Bryce three, Kain two and both Mateo and Cole one apiece.
