Cowboy basketball team routs Cadets 71-50

In a home contest last Friday, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity pulled away in the second half for an easy 71-50 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden. With the halftime score in favor of the home team at 30-23, the Cowboys gradually built on the lead in outscoring the visitors 41 points to 27 over the final two periods.

“The Cadets play hard and with a lot of energy,” stated head coach Brandon Lantzky. “We do the same thing, but the difference is our experience. We start five seniors, and then bring three more off the bench. Our juniors are also developing quickly. The Cadets have some talent and they play hard, but we have had more time to harness the power. We are still trying to harness all the power we have, but we are farther along than the Cadets.”

Four players finished in double figures, led by Sam Urness’s 17 points on 7 of 12 from the field. Rhett Darland popped for 13 points including three treys, Will Weidemann dropped 12 points thru the hoop and Bryce Tegtmeyer finished with 10 points. Zach Martin was close at nine counters, Alex Machuca had eight points and Jaace Weidemann contributed a bucket for two points.
