Cowboy basketball loses two close games

In what might have been a matter of the wins that got away, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity boys basketball team gave great effort in a pair of games that still simply wouldn’t go their way in the end. They lost to Clear Lake at home 69-65 on Friday, then traveled to Rockford and dropped a 68-64 contest with the Warriors.

Three players finished in double digits for the Cowboys versus Clear Lake, as Rhett Darland sank 22 points with seven buckets from downtown. Sam Urness netted 13 points with a nice 5 of 5 at the line, while Zack Leist checked in with 12 points. Jacob O’Connor added seven points, Will Weidemann six points and Derek Conlon five points. O’Connor got his mitts on six rebounds, with Darland pulling down four and both Weidemann and Leist three boards each. Avery Harrington got two, with Urness, Marco Duran and Conlon all getting in on one each.

"This is a team we have a good chance of seeing again,” stated Cowboy head coach Brandon Lantzky. “We did a good job of moving the ball. We had the lead and then had a few weird things happen to cause us to fall behind. We just could not get a stop when we needed it.”
