Cowboy basketball evens their record with two wins

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity boys basketball team was able to reach the .500 mark after taking care of Iowa Falls-Alden 50-39 in a home game last Friday. After spotting the Cadets an 11-9 lead after one quarter, the Cowboys outscored them 30 points to 12 over the next two periods to be up 39-23 to start the fourth quarter.

No less than three members of the red and black reached double digit scoring. Sam Urness and Zach Leist each finished with 12 points, with Sam hitting a three-pointer, while Rhett Darland poured in 11 points including a trey. Chase Harker scored eight points, Will Weidemann six points and Noah Maxheimer one point to round it out. The 33 total rebounds column had Leist getting his paws on nine of them, with Harker and Rhett grabbing five each. Weidemann yanked down four caroms, Urness three, Ryan Darland and Maxheimer two each and Derek Conlon one.

Urness was unselfish in dishing the ball for six assists, with Rhett making three and Conlon two. Ryan Darland and Harker each added one assist to their night’s work. Maxheimer picked off three steals, with Urness and Conlon getting two thefts each. Harker, Rhett and Leist all finished with one apiece. Leist went up for a blocked shot.
