Cowboy basketball drops home game to Clear Lake

Following a season opening win, the Clarion-Goldfield varsity boys basketball team is having difficulty getting back on track following two more losses in the past week.

They started out by dropping a 92-62 home game last Tuesday with Clear Lake. The Lions led by just 20-15 after one quarter, with the Cowboys cutting into the lead just a bit in the second to make it 44-41 as the teams entered their locker rooms.

Chris Staudt led the team by netting 17 points, which included three buckets from downtown. Trenton Sann was not far behind with 11 points, going 3 of 4 from the charity stripe. Cody Kapka was close with nine points, while Phil Johnson finished with eight including 2 of 3 in free throws. Kenton Waters added seven points, with six of those on three’s, and Austin Keller scored six points. Kirby Simmons and Jacob Harvey both completed the scoring column with a bucket each.
