Cowboy baseball team takes two wins in past week

Last Monday June 5, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity baseball team dropped a 10-0 home game to Iowa Falls-Alden. The Cadets did their main damage in the second with five runs scored. Reed Abbas and Bryce Tegtmeyer had the only hits, both singles, with Tegtmeyer also drawing a walk. Brendon Boyd took the loss on the hill, allowing nine earned runs with three walks and three K’s in four innings. Brier Boyd came on for two innings, throwing one strikeout.

On Tuesday night, they played at home again and squeaked out a 13-12 win over Belmond-Klemme in a wild offensive contest. The fifth inning proved very productive for both teams, as the Broncos six-run top of the inning was more than countered by the Cowboys nine-run barrage in the bottom of the frame.

Brendon was 2 for 3 with a double, driving in five runs while scoring one himself. Tegtmeyer was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI while crossing the plate twice. Tyler Stein was 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI along with two runs scored. Jacob O’Connor and Zach Martin pounded out base hits, with Zack Leist, Reed Abbas and Tanner Abbas all credited with an RBI each. O’Connor and Tanner crossed home plate twice, with Martin, Will Weidemann, Leist and Reed all coming home once each. Martin and Tanner each made a steal, while Brendon, Martin and Tanner showed a good eye at the plate in drawing two walks each. Weidemann, Reed, Tegtmeyer and Brier all took one free pass to first each.
