Cowboy baseball has rough first week

After showing some promise in a close 3-2 opening loss at Britt, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity baseball team slipped a bit in suffering a 6-0 loss at Story City and a 15-4 defeat at Jewell.

Versus the Eagles last Monday, May 21, the home team took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second only to have the Cowboys tie it again at 2-2 after three frames were in the scorebook. The Eagles then won it in the bottom of the eighth for a heartbreaking finish to a great effort.

Tanner Abbas had a 2 for 3 night at the plate, blasting a double with an RBI. Tyler Stein, Bryce Tegtmeyer, Caleb Krueger and Jaace Weidemann all reached on base hits, with Tegtmeyer credited with an RBI as well. Stein scored both runs. Stein and Tegtmeyer had two steals each, with Reed Abbas and Kain Nelson picking off one bag apiece. Stein, Reed Abbas and Bryce Brinkman all took one free pass each.
