Council approves to financially support new hotel

Due to the Labor Day holiday, the Clarion City Council did not meet until Tuesday, Sept. 2.  All council people were present.

Stacy Cayler and Kim Marker both addressed the council with continued concerns about their residences and the flood of 2010.  They first came to see the council with their issues in February 2013.

Since that time, their neighborhood of 2nd St. SE was chosen to be part of a FEMA study.  This study resulted in homeowners who still had a mortgage being “forced” into an expensive flood insurance policy ranging from $1,200 - $2,800 annually.

“Flood insurance policies cover the lender, but little for the homeowner,” said Cayler.  “Based on the map of Clarion, this was a very limited study of our town.  It appears that only a small portion of Clarion was taken into account and the remaining study was completed outside city limits.  This limited study included our neighborhood.”
