Contract for water tower maintenance approved

Following trouble at the City’s water plant in December, City Administrator Dustin Rief had begun looking into contracts to provide regulatory maintenance to prevent the occurrence and defray the costs of repairs on the city’s water tank. After looking at three contracts, Rief had the council consider approving one of them at their regular meeting on Monday.

John Snodgrass, sales representative for Iowa-based Maguire Iron, stepped forward to describe the contract.

“We already take care of your tanks currently,” Snodgrass said, referring to a contract for cleaning. “Really what we’re looking at here is switching to a different type of agreement.”

With the new agreement, the cost for yearly maintenance would be $77,503 every year for the first four years, and in year five the cost would decrease to $24,460. The cost in 2016 would go toward renovating the inside and outside of Clarion’s 5,000 gallon elevat
