Clarion Coin Club fall show

On Saturday at C-G-D High School, hobbyists, collectors, and dealers of coins gathered for the Clarion Coin Club’s fall show. There was much to see and learn for newcomers, and much to interest active coin collectors, like those in Clarion’s club.

“We’re one of the oldest in the state of Iowa,” club president Boyd Larue said.

“One of the most active, too,” Bill Soesbe, vice president, added.

The Coin Club also holds a larger spring show and sponsors another show in Mason City. LaRue and Soesby said that Clarion’s shows usually attract 12-15 dealers, typically filling almost 30 tables. At the show, dealers sold stamps, paper bills from other countries, baseball cards, tokens, and of course coins. Dealers displayed collections of coins in display cases, books, cards, and sometimes in tubs visitors could look through. Dealers came from Missouri, Minnesota, and Nebraska to show their coins, though many were from Iowa.
