Clarion’s M & Ms ‘adopts’ Los Angeles Police Department

At its January meeting, Clarion’s Marys and Marthas (M & Ms), an ecumenical group of gals, signed certificates ‘adopting’ the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

How did the local group happen to develop a relationship with the officers of the U.S. second largest city?

According to M & Ms member Karen Weld, for the past year plus, the group sends cards signed by its members, to police departments when they hear of a shooting or killing one of that city’s officers. “Unfortunately, we learn of 1 – 4 officers who have been injured or killed in the line of duty each month,” she said. Last fall, Los Angeles was one of the cities commended by the group for its service to its community.
